CENTRAL TEXAS RABBIT RESCUE
Rabbits are great pets and are very popular, especially around Easter. Unfortunately, people often acquire a pet rabbit, often for their kids, and then lose interest within a few months. Sometimes rabbits are well loved pets but their owner cannot keep them. Many people take the time to find a new home or place the rabbit in a local shelter, but not all. It is heartbreaking how many people choose to "set their rabbit free" rather than find a new home.
We are here to help you and your bunny when it doesn't work out. Please don't set your gentle, domesticated bunny into the wild. Pet store bunnies are bred to be pets. They don't have the survival skills of a Cottontail or a Jack Rabbit.
Please contact us to bring your bunny to our barn. We will try to find a new home for your rabbit. Unfortunately, we are not a "no-kill" shelter because we simply do not have the room, but we try our best to place rescue rabbits and usually succeed. We do not charge a fee for drop offs or for adopting a rescue, however, we ask that you make a donation to help us offset our costs for feeding, electricity (for lights, and fans in summer and heat lamps in winter), well water, etc. If you have a cage, feed or supplies, those are very appreciated as extra cages help us accept more bunnies in need of help and we can sell used cages to rescue buyers at a reduced cost.
Have other animals in need of adoption? We may be able to help. We don't accept dogs or cats, as there are many places that offer rescue for them, but if you have birds, farm animals, exotics, reptiles, etc. that need a new home, please talk to us.
Bunnies for Adoption
Californian Doe, about 3 years old, potty trained indoor bunny. - ADOPTED
Dutch Chinchilla Doe - "Destiny" This young senior doe is very pretty, shy and sweet. She is litter box trained and comes in her own cage. Destiny hasn't been out of her cage much or held, so she needs some socializing, but she is gentle and sweet and we anticipate that with calm attention she will be an excellent indoor pet for a quieter household. Probably best for older kids, teens or adults. We estimate she was born in the spring of 2009. - ADOPTED
Mini Lop boy - "Buster" Very sweet and looking for a forever home. Born spring of 2009. He is a shiny black with very soft fur. - ADOPTED
Mini Lop girl - "Floppy" - ADOPTED
Californian Buck - "Rhino" This young guy has had a varied life, first as part of a meat pen showing, then was donated and became a Classroom pet. When school was over May 2009 a family took him, but the kids didn't keep their interest, so he is with us now. Very sweet in his cage or running around, Rhino likes to be petted, but does not like to be held. Would make a great 4H or FFA rabbit, as he has matured very nicely, is tattooed and ready to show! - ADOPTED
