Mini Satin Breed Information
Size: Breed Standard is 3 1/4 lbs. to 4 3/4 lbs. Mini Satins have an upright ear, a compact body, and rich satin fur.
Varieties: White (Ruby Eyed White or "REW"), Red, Copper, Black, Siamese, Chocolate, Broken (color that is "broken" with white), Gold Tipped Steel, and many other varieties.
Temperament: Mini Satin personalities range from active, affectionate bunnies to jumpy neurotic bunnies. Obviously the former will make a better pet, so be sure to ask your breeder about temperament. Personally, I do not recommend Mini Satins for young children. Older kids and adults will appreciate the lively personalities and endless curiousity of Mini Satins, as well as their playful nature, and fabulous satin fur which glistens in the light. We have spent years culling out the high strung rabbits from out barn, so all our Mini Satins are bred from gentle parents going back many generations.
History: Mini Satins are a relatively new breed, and were accepted in 2005 by the American Rabbit Breeders Association. However, they have been in development since the 1970's, with many breeders working towards a smaller Satin rabbit until they were finally approved at the current standard in 2005. Only a few varieties may compete for Best of Breed or Best in Show (REW, Red, Opal, Siamese, Chinchilla), however, new varieties are being approved yearly, so look for more colors on the show tables soon.
